Why is this medicine prescribed?

This medicine is a retinoid-like compound used to treat mild to moderate acne.  
    

How should I take this medicine?

Adapalene is applied to the skin as a cream, gel, or pledget.  It is for external use only.  Do not take by mouth. Follow the
directions on the prescription label.  Make sure the skin is clean and dry by washing the affected area with a mild soap and
gently dry.   Apply just enough to cover the affected area.  Rub in gently.  
    

What if I missed a dose?

If you miss a dose, skip that dose and continue with your regular schedule.  Do not use extra doses, or use for a longer
period of time than directed by your prescriber.
    

What are the possible side effects?  

Side effects that may go away during the treatment include redness, itching, dryness, peeling, stinging, or a feeling of
warmth.  If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor.  CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE if you experience blistering, crusting, swelling, or excessive redness or peeling of your skin.


What drugs may interact with this medicine?

Drug interactions with adapalene are not expected.
    

What special instructions or precautions should I follow while using this medicine?

Do not get this medicine in your eyes or on the inside of your nose or mouth.  Your acne may get worse during the first
treatment period.  This is expected.  Do not stop using the medicine during this time as it may take 2 to 12 weeks before
you see the full benefit.  Do not wash your face more than 2 to 3 times a day unless told by your prescriber.  While you are
using this medicine, you may use cosmetics but wash your face thoroughly after using cosmetics and before applying this
medicine.  

Adapalene may increase sensitivity of the skin to the sun or UV light.  Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning
booths until you know how you react to this medicine.  Use a sunscreen SPF 15 or higher if you must be outside.

If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy.  
It is unknown if this drug is excreted in breast milk.  If you are or will be breast-feeding while using this medicine, discuss
the risks and benefits with your doctor or pharmacist.


Where can I store this medicine?        

Keep out of the reach of children.
Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F) away from heat and light.
